As Wisconsin’s aging population increases rapidly, ensuring safe and accessible homes becomes more crucial than ever. Project Home has been a steady hand for over 50 years, helping income-eligible homeowners in Dane and Green Counties live safely and independently in their homes. In fact, 62 percent of those served last year had a senior living in the home.

As a member of the 65+ crowd, I understand the importance of planning for the future. Maintaining homes isn’t just about aesthetics, it’s about safety and well-being. This is where Project Home steps in, making essential repairs: fixing steps and installing handrails, converting tubs to showers, building ramps, and more. The goal is to make every home safe and sound.

Beyond safety, homes can be made more comfortable, durable, and energy efficient. This translates to lower utility bills; better indoor air quality; and, ultimately, a healthier living environment. Weatherization services through Project Home are available to anyone who has received energy assistance in the past year, with income limits set to ensure they reach those who need these services most. Services may include insulating attics and side walls, water heater and furnace replacements, replacing inefficient refrigerators, installing ventilation systems, and installing smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

The maximum income for a household of two cannot exceed $44,263 to qualify for weatherization services and $75,750 to qualify for home repair programs in Dane County. For those households that don’t meet the income qualifications, Project Home’s Optimus program offers an exciting option. By hiring Project Home for home repairs at full cost, not only are you investing in your own home, but you’re also investing in your community. This is because all profits earned through the Optimus program are funneled back into the home repair programs to help others in need—a positive outcome for everyone involved!

Project Home also recognizes those that bravely defended our nation. That’s why we proudly offer Serving Those Who Served, a program dedicated to providing free home repair and weatherization services to veterans in need. It just takes a phone call, and we’ll get you qualified and guide you through the process.

Aging can bring new challenges, but you don’t have to face them alone. Project Home understands the importance of feeling safe and secure at home, and we are here to help you create a brighter, healthier, and happier future. Give yourself the peace of mind you deserve by reaching out to Project Home at (608) 246-3737 or visit projecthomewi.org. Project Home’s friendly staff can answer your questions and help you see if you qualify for any of the programs. Remember, taking care of your home is an investment in your well-being.
